Randstad have been partnering with educational institutes in South Australia for over three decades, supplying highly skilled professionals to assist in the teaching of our state's children of all ages.
At present, we are currently assisting one of Adelaide's well established high schools who are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to contribute to the day to day running of school laboratories.
Your role:
The Laboratory Support Officer reports to the Science Coordinator. The Laboratory Assistant works collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager and works closely with the Science Team.
- Contribute to the effective operation of the Science area by:
- Undertaking the preparation, testing, setup and dismantling of all Science practicals for Years 8 – 12 in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager.
- Working collaboratively with the Learning Area Leader - Science, Laboratory Manager and Science staff to plan efficient and effective schedules for the use of the laboratories and the practical needs in:
- Chemistry – Year 10 specialist, SACE and IB
- Physics – Year 10 specialist, SACE and IB
- Biology – Year 10 specialist, SACE and IB
- General Science Year 8 - 10.
- Supporting the Laboratory Manager with management of Science resources by ensuring adequate resources are available at all times including the repair, purchase of new or replacement resources is undertaken.
- Assisting groups of students with prepared practicals to achieve curriculum outcomes in a safe environment including demonstrating experiments to faculty staff and students as required.
- BELS First Aid or Senior First Aid Certificate will be required
- Experience in the safe handling of laboratory equipment and materials for preparation and use by students in multiple Science disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, deliver high quality service and establish positive working relationships with students and colleagues from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds including management of conflict situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, while working efficiently under limited direction either independently or as part of a team to meet work targets within a laboratory environment.
- Some out of hours requirements will occur to meet deadlines and these will be covered in accordance with the existing industrial provisions relevant at the time.
- Responding to Abuse and Neglect – education and care training must be completed.
- Employee will be required to hold a current Working with children check at all times.
- Employee will be required to hold a current senior first aid certificate.
- Participation in PDA processes, including Ancillary Team meetings is mandatory.
