Symbio services nearly 8000 clients, performing over 35,000 tests each week. NATA and TGA accredited, Symbio provides rapid-turnaround testing across major food groups, including meat, grains, fruit and vegetable commodities. We also conduct a wide array of tests on water, soil, effluent, surfaces and air to ensure the health of the immediate and wider environment.
THE ROLE
Symbio is seeking a professional and passionate Laboratory Technician to join our Melbourne Chemistry team.
This laboratory is responsible for analyses on a wide range of matrices, testing everything from the food you eat to the water you drink. You will become an integral part of our exciting, innovative and supportive environment!
Duties may include:
- Perform chemical analysis included in the current corporate scope of accreditation for Symbio Laboratories whilst meeting the turn-around time requirement,
- Proactively develop and improve technical competency for assigned tasks and equipment,
- Perform daily quality control tasks and periodical equipment calibrations, as well as efficiently and effectively troubleshooting equipment failures/method issues as required,
- Assist in the review and update of methodologies and instrument SOP’s in accordance with the requirements of Symbio’s Quality System,
- Effectively manage reference materials, standards, and reagents ensuring traceability and compliance to NATA requirements,
- Monitor, maintain, and rotate stock for laboratory consumables and diluents, and prepare reagents and standard solutions that are needed for chemical analysis,
- Maintain general laboratory housekeeping and perform equipment maintenance,
- Train staff as required within your scope of duties,
- Participate in inter-laboratory proficiency test programs.,
- Actively participate in the continual improvement of workplace health & safety.
Essential Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications in Chemistry and/or laboratory science or related field,
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills,
- Flexibility to work rosters that meet business demands,
- Previous experience working in a similar fast-paced commercial laboratory environment,
- Experience with laboratory quality management systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation,
- High level of attention to details and a desire to learn,
- Ability to work as an individual and in a team environment.
