Your Opportunity
A part-time, 0.20FTE (14.5 hours per fortnight) opportunity has become available to join our Hervey Bay Nursing Team. The role is temporary part-time until 6th December 2024.
The Laboratory Technician will contribute to the efficient operation of the organisation through the provision of a quality technical support role to teaching staff in providing a practical learning environment to suit the needs of curriculum implementation.
This position reports to the Educational Operations Manager (Head of Nursing).
The position will be based at Hervey Bay; however, you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare all nursing laboratory requirements such as equipment, consumables, demonstration medicines and clinical documentation for nursing clinical lab class.
• Ensure safe storage and safe disposal of chemical solutions, sharps and PPE after classes and maintain the laboratory and equipment in a clean and tidy state.
• Order stock and control stock levels of consumables and equipment used in practical classes.
• Implement and control a safe working environment and ensure work health and safety is followed.
• Comply with legislation, standards and best practice in the use of laboratory equipment, preparation of material for classes and disposal of chemical solutions and sharps.
• Maintain existing quality assurance and safety procedures for all laboratories and review/develop procedures where appropriate.
• Contribute to the achievement of TAFE Queensland East Coast quality policies by encouraging an environment where high quality of work is achieved and is supported by the adherence/development of quality system documentation.
How you will be assessed
1. A demonstrated knowledge of contemporary workplace health and safety legislation, Australian Standards and best practice guidelines as they apply to the preparation, storage, and disposal of chemicals and sharps.
2. Knowledge, and practical application of basic instrumentation and equipment used in clinical nursing tasks.
3. Knowledge of the use, care and storage of equipment and instruments used in nursing laboratories.
4. Proven ability to work as part of a team while remaining flexible and adaptable to organise and prioritise own workload and apply well developed organisational skills to tasks or projects.
Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements
• Possession of a Diploma of Nursing or Applied Science (or equivalent).
• Applicants studying towards these equivalent qualifications with relevant laboratory experience will also be considered.
