About the role Make a difference in the lives of Aboriginal womenGenerous SCHCADS Award salary on offer – SCHCADS Level 4.4 – $88,277.80 (Lawyer) to Level 6.1 – $102,546.08 (Senior Lawyer)Full-time, ongoing position About the RoleThe Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service (AFVLS) is a program of Djirra. AFVLS provides legal and non-legal assistance and facilitates access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced family violence or sexual assault.AFVLS operates a culturally safe, trauma-informed, holistic and intensive client service model. Clients are assisted by Lawyers and Paralegal Support Workers to access a variety of legal, social, psychological, cultural, health and other support services to address their complex needs and issues. Lawyers provide legal services including advice, representation, and advocacy in the areas of:child protectionfamily violence intervention ordersfamily law; andvictims of crime assistance Senior Lawyers also supervise legal and non-legal work undertaken by Lawyers and Paralegal Support Workers. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply. RequirementsEssential:National Police CheckWorking with Children’s CheckDriver’s LicenceEligible to hold a legal practising certificate in Victoria.A degree in law(Senior Lawyers) At least five years practical legal experience in family violence-related law. Desirable:At least one year of practical experience in a community legal, family violence or justice related setting.
