ABOUT THE ROLE:

A leadership opportunity contributing to the new service development for the Older Adults living in the catchment area of Mercy Mental Health.

Mercy Mental Health & Wellbeing Service, a provider of Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Services in the South West Metropolitan Area of Melbourne, is establishing an Older Adults community-based team. We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in the care of older people experiencing mental health illnesses.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new community team that will provide mental health support to Older Adults living in the Wyndham and Hobson Bay areas

You will be an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with a passion for caring for older people. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary, integrated, community-based team that provides outreach services.

The Older Adults Community Team provides the provision of assessment, primary and secondary consultation and case management to adults over the age of 65 who are experiencing psychological disorders, mental illness and have aged related physical co-morbidities.

Outreach services are provided to Older Adults living at home or within Residential Aged Care Facilities. This team also provides support to families and carers.

The team will initially be based at Saltwater Clinic in Footscray and will work across Sites. Salary and conditions in accordance with qualifications.

You will be required to provide clinical leadership and support in the Older Adults Community Team, including supervision of junior medical staff.

Opportunity for involvement in the training of Registrars in the RANZCP fellowship program, as well as provide teaching to Medical Students from the University of Notre Dame.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
  • Specialist Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • You will have well-developed communication skills and be comfortable practicing within a Recover Orientated Mental Health Service Framework.
  • You will have demonstrated clinical leadership skills.
  • Prior experience working in the Public Mental Health Service system will be of benefit.
  • Preferable to have certificate of advanced training in old age psychiatry.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Candidates are required to meet the position and qualification requirements.
  • Provide a current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check (Mercy Health may conduct additional background checks subject to current legislation).
  • Proof of vaccination status consistent with public health orders and with Mercy Health’s policy (includes but is not limited to COVID-19 and seasonal influenza vaccination compliance requirement).
