We are looking for an experienced Lead Developer to join our growing Innovation team
About the role:
As part of the Innovation Lab, Bunnings are launching a range of new consumer facing applications, and other innovation initiatives, which will form a key part of how we engage with our customers.
The team is growing to increase its delivery capability and as such are we are looking to bring on board a Lead Developer who will report into our Engineering Lead.
You will be tasked with spearheading projects aimed at integrating GenAI technology into our business, improving how we operate our business and engage with our customers.
As a Lead Developer you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintain our frontend, middleware and backend products and services across our retail web applications in a cross functional team environment.
You will provide leadership within the team amongst strategic vision and solution architecture.
You will be a key conduit between Delivery Leads, Tech Lead, Product Managers, Designers, and your Development Team to lead the problem solving and implementation of a solution. You will be a champion of agile software development practices such as test-driven development, continuous delivery and pair programming.
You will form a part of a cross-functional team and expected to make a significant contribution to the success of the team’s objectives and culture. You will use your skills and experience to mentor more junior team members and promote high standard technical and user experience outcomes.
As a Lead Developer, you can expect to:
- Design, code, test and deploy web applications and associated technologies
- Support the implementation of the platform's technology strategy
- Contribute to a maintainable, high quality, and performant codebase
- Implement new features in a highly collaborative environment with product managers and engineers
- Working in an agile team, where iterative experimentation and data driven decisions with product and UX is valued
- Effectively communicate your technical solutions and product ideas with the team
- Mentor other engineering team members
To be successful in this role, you will be a detail oriented, outcome driven problem solver who is well versed with working within agile environments. As a passionate technologist you are all about knowledge sharing and upskilling and possess excellent collaboration and communication skills. Further requirements include:
- 5+ years of software development experience that includes developing web applications
- 2+ years' technical leadership experience
- Typed language expert with strong foundation in OOP and TDD
- Experience designing and developing RESTful API
- Strong foundations in Web Standards and solid experience in Typescript & JavaScript (build tools, package manager, frameworks, debugging tools, etc.)
- Production experience with React and associated front end technologies
- DevOps experience with knowledge on how to setup, configure, and maintain a CI/CD pipeline
- Excellent knowledge of software engineering best practices (e.g. agile software development, continuous deployment, behaviour driven development, code review, design documentation, infrastructure as code, etc.)
- Good knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g.: Docker, Vagrant, etc.) would be a bonus
- Experience with Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) would be a bonus
