Our Lihir operation in the Power & Utilities Department is now recruiting for the Leading Hand – Mechanical position.
The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:
- Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
- Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and the relevant Supervisor first agrees upon any corrections.
- Maintains all engines, turbines, and auxiliary equipment by maintaining a high level of understanding of the Process Plant’s operational issues including fault diagnosis, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Effectively operates diesel engines, steam turbines and auxiliary equipment by safe operating procedures to ensure sufficient and consistent power is provided to all end users.
- Utilises SCADA, the computerised control system to monitor engine parameters and adjust variables to ensure consistent provision of power to end-users.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment and assists the maintenance planning section in the planning and development of day-to-day and weekly operations and maintenance schedules.
Essential criteria
- 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience in the power generation or heavy industry.
- Minimum level of Grade 10 education.
- Diesel Fitting or Mechanical trades qualification or certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of operation, monitoring and knowledge of steam turbines, diesel engines, HFO separation units and related plant & equipment.
- PNG Power Ltd, Power Station Operator Certificate or equivalent formal training.
- Class 6 and “C” licenses.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Good verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
- High attention to detail with good time management skills.
- Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
Desirable criteria
- Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar
The Requirements
- Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
