We now have an opportunity for a passionate and experienced Academic to join our Social Work Discipline within the College of Arts, Society and Education as a Lecturer, Field Education.

  • Full-time; continuing. 
  • Academic Level B $103,238 - $121,815per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Based at either our Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus Douglas or Cairns Nguma-bada campus Smithfield in picturesque tropical North Queensland.

What you can accomplish in the role

Working alongside a diverse group of academic and research staff, you will be responsible for contributing to the Bachelor of Social Work and Masters of Social Work programmes through teaching and research, and co-ordination of Field Education activities. Research activities include conducting and publishing research within the field of Social Work and supervise Higher Degree Research students. 

You will have the opportunity to bring connections and networks in the field and liaise with relevant stakeholders and organisations, and broadly support the University’s Strategic Intent.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a proven track record in Field Education, and teaching and research focused on social work with Indigenous peoples and regional, rural and remote communities, migration and diversity studies.

What you can bring to the role

  • Completion of a PhD, or near completion in Social Work or related discipline with at least five years’ experience in Social Work practice as a qualified social worker with current membership of, or continuing eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). 
  • Demonstrated sustained, exemplary contributions to learning and teaching, and curriculum development, in Social Work at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • A proven track record of research in the field of Social Work, with a particular focus on the themes of migration and citizenship, mental health, homelessness, child protection, gender studies, environmental social work as well as Indigenous and rural and remote community work, evidenced through publications and successful external grant activity. 
  • Ability to lead and contribute to the learning experiences of students undertaking Field Education placements, and to undertake fieldwork coordination duties.
