As the largest School in the College, the School of Environmental and Life Sciences (SELS) offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School maintains numerous internationally significant research activities with substantial numbers of higher degree research students, as well as excellent research facilities.Be challenged and imagine with usThe School of Environmental & Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer with teaching and research expertise in Geographic Information Science (GIS) and spatial modelling analytics. Based within the Discipline of Earth Science, you will be joining a young, vibrant, and growing Earth Science department with recently appointed academics with expertise in hydrogeology, ocean and coastal geoscience and remote sensing.This is a fantastic opportunity to bring a Geographic Information Science focus on applications in hydrology/surface water, geomorphology, rivers and connected landscapes, biogeography, vegetation science, and/or Indigenous physical geography and establish a research program complementary to existing research strengths in the discipline.How will you inspire usThe successful candidates will have:
  • Completed undergraduate or postgraduate training in spatial Information Science and a doctoral qualification in earth science, environmental science, spatial Information Science, or related area.
  • Demonstrated record of publication in high-quality outlets including evidence of international and national research collaborations and/or partnerships.
  • Skills and experience in active supervision of honours, masters, and/or Higher Degree by Research postgraduate research projects.
  • Demonstrate recent ability to undertake high quality and state-of-the art undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes for students.
  • Demonstrate recent ability to contribute at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels, taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules and coordinating one or more courses.
  • Ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities, contributing to outcomes of internal committees, and developing external collaborations.
Additional desirable attributes include:
  • Skills and experience in data science using Python and/or R programming languages for both research and teaching purposes.
  • Experience using site scale spatial data and spatial modelling methods, in particular, drone data with application to hydrology/surface water, geomorphology, rivers and connected landscapes, biogeography, vegetation science, and/or Indigenous physical geography.
  • A CASA RePL Licence
