The successful applicant will be expected to make a major contribution to teaching and leadership, including convening and teaching units across the criminology curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will also be expected to engage with relevant stakeholders in the community, government, and industry, including through externally funded grant projects, and make an active contribution to the administration of the Department, Faculty and University.

ABOUT YOU

You will have completed a PhD in Criminology, or a related discipline, and will be able to demonstrate a promising teaching, leadership, and research profile in Criminology commensurate to opportunity. As a teacher, you will have a demonstrated record of impactful and engaging teaching in both the classroom and online learning environments, employing a range of innovative pedagogical practices. SSC draws together senior academics and leading industry professionals specialising in research, theory and practice associated with security, and the protection of both the national interest and the rights of individuals and groups within society. SSC’s principal areas of teaching and research centre on criminology, security and strategic studies, cyber security, intelligence, and terrorism. Click here to learn more about us.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This full-time, fixed term contract will allow the successful candidate to teach, engage in professional leadership and work within a vibrant, research active department within the Faculty of Arts. This role is defined as 70% teaching and 30% service and leadership activities. In the department, the post graduate course in Criminology seeks to incorporate researchers with different disciplinary, theoretical, and professional orientations to crime, justice, and social inequality. The criminology major, part of the Bachelor of Arts, is one of the largest majors in the Faculty of Arts, and you will have the opportunity to engage in a vibrant and active pedagogic space that opens students up to new knowledge that challenges our assumptions of crime and justice. Our areas of interest within Criminology are broad, including crimes of the powerful, social harm, transnational crime, and policing. The SSC criminology stream works closely with colleagues across our interdisciplinary department, and, in the classroom, students often elect to take criminology subjects from a wide range of degrees and background.  The Department also expects to commence a bachelor’s in Criminology in the coming year.
