The University of Canberra is ranked in the top five universities globally for reducing inequalities (THE Impact Rankings, 2023).About the role:We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Lecturer in Indigenous Studies to join our team of dedicated and passionate teaching and research staff in the Bachelor of Arts (Culture and Heritage). In this role you will be delivering and leading high quality inclusive tertiary education to undergraduate students as well as developing and participating in news media and/or cultural and creative research.Working collaboratively with colleagues in the wider School of Design and the Built Environment, you will assist in developing, re-designing, delivering and administering undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in the Indigenous Studies minor, including the development and delivery of lectures, tutorials and associated teaching activities.About you:To be successful you must have a PhD (or have substantial progress towards a PhD) in a discipline such as cultural studies, heritage, or which focuses on a topic that provides a contribution to the field of Indigenous Studies. Experience within tertiary education is highly desirable, and evidence of an emerging research track record will be highly regarded.This is a designated position in accordance with s42, Discrimination Act 1991 and is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential for this position.Indigenous Studies Minor:Indigenous Studies provides a contemporary focus to prepare students to work with Indigenous Australia. These units can be taken as electives to complement a range of disciplines and enrich the professional lives of students. Taken as a minor, the units deliver a progressive set of learning encounters.Beginning with our foundational unit Indigenous Ways of Knowing (11126), students develop a framework for understanding Indigenous ontologies, epistemologies and axiologies.Connections to Country (11128) grounds these understandings into the local and national environment.The Indigenous Cultures and Digital Contexts (11122) unit strengthens and deepens these understandings by connecting students to Country and culture through cutting-edge technology.Finally, Voicing the Living Archive (11123) allows students to use what they have learnt in previous units to imagine how they could be part of the decolonising process as they encounter and work with the university's own First Nations collections.Offerings/ Benefits/ Culture:The University offers excellent conditions and benefits such as flexible, family-friendly policies, on site gym, on site medical services, employee assistance program, professional development offerings, a convenience store onsite and childcare facilities.University of Canberra embodies it's of Everyone's invites, Nurragunnawali, Change the World, Dare to be Curious and Walk together which we are proud.
