Within our Disputes practice we have our specialist Transport, Shipping & Logistics team, led by award-winning partners Nathan Cecil and Geoff Farnsworth. The team deals with a range of disputes, regulatory and commercial work for clients in the domestic and international transport, shipping, and logistics sectors and/or for whom trade and transport form a key part of their business operations and risk. These clients include national and international clients, listed companies, SME’s and private companies.
In joining them, you will be working within a supportive, high-performing and collaborative team.
About the role
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support the partners and the lawyers in the team in a role which is more than your average Legal Assistant role. Of course, you will be providing support to the team, but we are looking for someone who wishes to become an integral part of the team. You will be included in the team’s weekly meetings where you will develop a depth of understanding around the practice, current matters and who the clients are.
With this in mind, you can expect a varied role including a mix of Legal Assistant work as well as assisting the partners in practice management.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Document preparation and management
- Collating briefs to counsel
- Paper and electronic file management (Filesite)
- Diary management
- Organising team meetings
- Monthly billing and entering time (Aderant Expert)
- General administration
- Monitoring progress and delivery of matters
- Managing budgets and schedules
- Client account and debtor management including managing fee estimates.
About you
You will have experience working in a busy Legal Assistant position and have had exposure to, and an interest in, litigation matters. You will have a strong understanding of the court processes and be familiar with relevant court documents. You will also be tech savvy and have an eye for detail.
You will also be proactive and will be seeking a role where you can improve and streamline processes as well as thinking ahead to support the team.
The team are open to considering law students for this role who have at least a couple of years left of their degree and therefore can commit to the role for the next 18-24 months.
