About the team Our Native Title and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practice is led by partner Jenny Humphris, a recognised leading lawyer in Native Title and cultural heritage law. Holding Redlich represents respondent parties in most of the Native Title claims in Queensland and NSW. We regularly provide advice to local governments, government corporations, developers, pastoral holders, and other public and private entities as respondent parties to Native Title claims and on the Native Title and cultural heritage compliance implications of government and private infrastructure projects. Our team forms part of the firm’s broader Property and Planning Practice and works with other practice groups. About the role We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to work closely with Partner Jenny Humphris and play a critical role in providing high level administrative and legal support. This is a traditional secretarial role that will have access to varied and interesting work on Native Title matters. Commencing in early to late May, with a comprehensive hand over and training period, day to day you can expect the following: Duties
File maintenance - electronic and paper (FileSite) Digital dictation Diary management Manage billing process in accordance with firm timetable and prepare pre-bills Document production Preparation of correspondence and complex legal documents (where appropriate through use of our firm precedents) including engagement letters, letter templates and contracts whilst ensuring these documents conform with our firm style guide Managing execution of agreements via DocuSign Arranging transmission of large files Editing large documents using track changes and managing version control Maintaining team and client precedent documents at the direction of a partner Collating brief to counsel and expert both hardcopy and by e-brief Preparing and lodging court documents in Federal Court Preparing documents with multiple annexures General administration Systems Document Management System (iManage) Time recording/Billing (Aderant) CompareDocs E-brief Reporting for Government and institutional clients as required About you Whilst experience in Native Title and Indigenous matters would be highly desirable, we are keen to hear from experienced Legal Assistants who have a genuine interest in Native Title and cultural heritage law. Experience working within government or for government clients will also be a bonus. You will possess excellent capability in Word, Adobe Acrobat the use of precedents and house style formatting. In addition, you will have excellent capabilities managing end of month billing processes with experience in Aderant or other billing software. You will be a self-starter, an excellent communicator, and have a keen eye for detail. You will enjoy a busy work environment with the capacity to juggle competing deadlines and enjoy being a team player and assisting your colleagues to deliver excellent client service.
