The Opportunity:
AIA Australia has an opportunity available for an experienced Legal Counsel to join their litigation/disputes/claims advice team for a parental leave contract until the end of 2024. This role would ideally suit an experienced Legal Counsel with demonstrated experience within the life insurance industry, ideally within claims litigation. Reporting to the General Manager, Legal you will partner with specific areas of the business on day-to-day and some more complex or high-risk matters.
To do this successfully you will:
- Advise on life insurance claims, complaints and litigation, as well as external dispute resolution and engaging with AFCA
- Act as the business partner to relevant Executives and Leadership team members, providing legal and commercial advice on key initiatives
- Provide a wide range of professional and commercial legal advice and services with minimal or no supervision
- Implement appropriate policies and procedures for their channel and other areas of the business
- Assist in the efficient and effective use of external counsel to ensure quality legal advice and assistance is procured in a cost-effective manner
Successful applications will demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience within a commercial legal environment either at a mid or top tier law firm or inhouse
- Provision of legal advice at a senior level within the financial services sector
- Admission to the practice as a barrister or solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction or to a common law jurisdiction outside of Australia
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to liaise with a diverse range of personnel operating at a senior level
- Enthusiasm for the important role they play at AIA together with a great work ethic
- A collaborative attitude and a high level of team engagement
- Strong judgement and decision-making ability
- The ability to liaise with EXCO and other senior management on complex issues
- A high level of commercial awareness to understand the perspective and requirements of the business
- High level of research and analytical skills
