Football Victoria (FV) is the governing body for football (soccer) in Victoria with a clear purpose to inspire and enable Victorians from all walks of life to live and love football, for life.
As a member federation of Football Federation Australia and through the national body's affiliation with FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations), we look after the administration, promotion and delivery of football and futsal (indoor football) across the state including:
- semi-professional ranks
- amateurs
- women and girls
- youth
- referees
- coaches
- officials
- volunteers
Our team of more than 70 people helps to deliver over 40,000 football matches every football season, through the scheduling of annual fixtures and by setting appropriate rules of competition. We also support our appointed match officials, alongside the many thousands of club volunteers, in playing a vital role in making the game happen week in, week out.
Due to some internal changes and investment into our people, a fantastic opportunity is now available for a Legal Counsel to join our team on a 0.6FTE (3 days per week) part time basis. There may be an opportunity to increase this pending workload and FV requirements.
Located at the world class Home of The Matilda’s in Bundoora and primarily supporting our Executive and Football Victoria Operations the role is responsible for overseeing Football Victoria's focus on the legal and integrity frameworks for the organisation, clubs and associations and the game in Victoria.
Furthermore, it is expected that the individual provides accurate and timely legal advice to the FV Board, the CEO, Executive Team and Management across all relevant issues. It is also required that there be a constant uplift of legal education within FV. The role is accountable for developing and implementing sound policies and procedures compliant with relevant legislation, the Rules of the Game, and industry standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provision of high quality and timely legal advice on all aspects of the FV’s operations appropriate to the commercial needs of the organisation
- Input into technical GDT & Tribunal matters
- Required to attend Tribunal Hearings as requested
- Assist in the creation and moderation of internal governance policies and compliance as they relate to the Rules of the Game and processes
- Contract and risk management reporting
- Assist with integrity matters including member protection and child safety, litigation and dispute resolution
- Supporting the preparation of education sessions
- Legal support on commercial and partnership relationships
- Keep abreast of developments in sports law and commercial law
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Degree in Law – LLB; Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Victoria with a current practising certificate and at least 5 years experience
- Outstanding organisational skills and demonstrated experience of ethical and integrity-based leadership
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Outstanding verbal and written skills that focus on key drivers and strategic outcomes
- Current Working With Childrens Check
- Previous experience as lawyer in a Sporting organisation will be highly regarded.
