We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team and to support the Group Manager Legal and the General Counsel to provide legal advice and services within Hunter Water.

The Opportunity
As the Legal Counsel you will provide generalist legal services including providing written and verbal advice and briefings, conducting legal research and legal compliance, with a particular focus on contract negotiation and drafting and contract management.
The role will collaborate with Hunter Water’s people to develop and implement legal systems, practices and strategies which address Hunter Water’s key organisational risks and compliance obligations.
What you'll do:
- Providing quality, timely, comprehensive and solution focused legal advice and drafting on a range of commercial and procurement transactions.
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiation of legal documents.
- Identifying and managing legal risks in contracts, operations, and claims.
- Negotiating major commercial transactions and non-routine transactions.
- Maintaining awareness and knowledge of existing and emerging areas of law that impact Hunter Water.
What you'll need to be successful:
- Minimum 3 years post admission experience in one or more States in Australia (or equivalent qualifications from overseas and taking steps to be admitted in Australia).
- Relevant legal skills in interpreting, analysing, and drafting legal documents.
- Familiarity and understanding of relevant legislation including commercial and contracts law.
- Ability to manage legal cases.
- Highly developed communication, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in an in-house role or similar.
- Experience working in the utility sector or similar.
- Proven experience in effectively managing external legal resources.
