About your new team
As the population of Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) continues to expand, they present a growing threat to public health, environmental integrity, and the esteemed reputation of the City of Gold Coast as a desirable place to live.
Collaborating with both State and Federal agencies, our newly established team is dedicated to conducting surveillance and implementing suppression measures against fire ants across the Gold Coast, in alignment with our mission to safeguard public health, protect the environment, and preserve the Gold Coast's reputation as a vibrant and liveable city.
About your new role
In this role you will be the lead communicator and engagement specialist for our Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA) management efforts. You will generate communication strategies and foster strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP).
Working closely with our Red Imported Fire Ant Coordinator, you'll take charge of coordinating educational initiatives and training programs related to Red Imported Fire Ants, as well as developing comprehensive engagement plans.
Additionally, you'll be responsible for managing our social media presence and scheduling engaging content to keep the public informed and involved in our mission. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in safeguarding our community and environment!

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Demonstrated effective communication experience with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks and processes
- Strong initiative and proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Experience with stakeholder engagement
- Experience and understanding of the Biosecurity Act 2014 is highly desirable
