This is a permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing as soon as possible. 

Onslow Primary School (PS) is seeking a passionate and motivated Library Officer to join their school.

As Library Officer at our school, your role will be to ensure that all library resources are managed professionally. You will be expected, amongst other responsibilities, to provide general clerical and library support, including preparing correspondence and booking equipment and facilities, and maintain the resources and environment of the school library. You will also be required to operate library systems which ensure library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students, staff and parents at all times

Onslow PS enjoys a culturally diverse population of approximately 160 students across Kindergarten to Year 12. Onslow is a coastal town in the West Pilbara Region of Western Australia about 300km southwest of Karratha. The opportunities within education are enhanced through partnerships with local industry within the town which has a culturally diverse student population where we acknowledge the traditional owners of the land.

Our school's teaching and learning programs are conducted in accordance with the Western Australian Curriculum and adjusted to meet the individual needs of the students. We offer the same access to learning resources as those available to students in major centres, with a strong focus on academic rigour, general health programs and the use of technology in teaching and learning.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
  • Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Ability to provide administrative support and organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
