The Library Technician is responsible for delivering a high-quality customer experience in a dynamic environment where engaging with children aged 0-5 is a key outcome. The successful applicant will be responsible for working independently and supervising a small library facility.

This position may be required to work at any of our Library locations but will primarily be based at Ormeau Community Lounge and Library.

Key deliverables of the position

• Deliver a consistent, high-quality approach to customer experience across City Libraries and engage with customers in an enthusiastic and welcoming manner.
• Willingness and ability to present high quality and engaging sessions to customers e.g. Storytime, Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, and digital literacy training.
• Willingness to learn and apply the First 5 Forever key principles for engaging with children aged 0-5 https://www.slq.qld.gov.au/first5forever
• Ability to open and close Library facilities.
• Ability to work independently and be a self-starter to complete tasks.  Please note that only one person is rostered to work at the Ormeau Community Lounge and Library at any one time, with the exception of when Family Engagement programs are delivered.
• Assist with the circulation and maintenance of library collections through processing returns, transits, and new items, shelving returned items, retrieving requested items from shelves, and actioning collection housekeeping reports.
• Assist customers in using technology and equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, wireless internet access, library apps, eBooks and mobile devices.
• Possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Intermediate to advanced digital literacy skills, including Library Management System, MS Word & Excel.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for public libraries and the communities they serve, highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and are able to work independently and as a member of a high-functioning team.

To be eligible for this role, you must have completed your Library Technician qualification, or possess equivalent relevant experience in a library role.
