Purpose of the position
The Literacy, Numeracy, Digital skills Curriculum Development Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day development and delivery of Batchelor’s Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills programs and courses. The coordinator works closely with lecturers and Batchelor Institute Senior Executive to determine priorities for providing literacy and numeracy education and training opportunities within and across programs and courses at Batchelor Institute.

Duties

  • Provide leadership in design, development, implementation and reporting of the explicit functional literacy, numeracy and Digital Skills programs and courses at Batchelor Institute.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders including community members, evaluate and improve delivery of the functional, continuous literacy, numeracy and Digital Skills programs at Batchelor Institute, including the coordination of the accredited training element of programs.
  • Work in partnership with stakeholders and communities to ensure the successful delivery of literacy, numeracy and Digital Skills programs to meet Batchelor Institute’s key organisational goals and align with strategic and operational directions.
  • Analyse data to inform and target future program development needs and build student literacy and numeracy capacity
  • Provide leadership in developing and planning industry and other stakeholder reference groups, and to facilitate the introduction of new initiatives in relation to VET literacy, numeracy and Digital Skills at Batchelor Institute including support programs.
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data as required for reporting and research purposes. Collect data and write progress reports and academic papers as part of the continual improvement of literacy and numeracy programs at Batchelor Institute.
  
Selection Criteria
  1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities and organisations.
  2. A professional qualification in Linguistics, Education, Literacy/Numeracy, Adult Learning or similar or equivalent work experience.
  3. A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or willingness to obtain, to be able to deliver and assess accredited VET courses.
  4. Experience teaching and designing literacy and numeracy programs and Digital Skills courses.
  5. The ability to involve students, community members and a range of diverse agency groups in the development of dynamic literacy and numeracy programs and courses.
  6. Experience in research and evaluation of education programs and ability to report to internal and external organisations on program outcomes.
  7. Experience in the use of digital learning technologies and platforms for the development of online learning resources and program design and delivery for diverse student needs.
  8. Well-developed problem-solving, organisational and administrative skills.
  9. Hold a current Australian Driver’s license. Must be confident to operate a manual 4WD vehicle and drive as a single driver on remote, dirt roads.

  • Complete all mandatory training such as required by the Institute.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, staff and student equity, work health and safety and other relevant legislation, and show the willingness and capacity to implement equal employment opportunity and work health and safety plans, policies, and programs.
  • Commitment to an employment relationship of trust and the obligation to always do the right thing by Batchelor Institute and in accordance with Batchelor Institute's Cultural Framework.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
  
  
Work Health & Safety
  • Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
  • Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
  • Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
