Job description

Your Employer
Supplying the international market since 1933, our client is an Australian-owned agribusiness specialising in the supply of high-quality, responsibly raised beef products. With 3 strategically located processing facilities across Victoria and Tasmania, they continue to demonstrate their commitment to exceeding industry standards and the support of local farmers.

Boasting a dynamic culture built on collaboration, support, and teamwork, they are now supplying 10 premium brands including grass-fed, barley-finished, and wagyu beef products. Located at their state-of-the-art processing plant in Tongala, Victoria, an experienced Livestock Manager is required to join their team.

The Role
Joining an established workforce, the Plant Livestock Manager will effectively manage all on-site livestock operations, ensuring production schedules and customer orders are met. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role will need to provide guidance and leadership to a team of 12, consisting of Livestock Admin, Livestock Drovers, and the Yard Supervisor.

Whilst there are no purchasing requirements, this role will need to oversee cattle processing from their initial arrival on site, through to inspections and handover to the Kill Floor team.

Processing 1000-head of cattle per day, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Ensuring all staff meet requirements of site’s OH&S, QA, and Animal Welfare standards.
  • Managing staff across all areas of livestock from receival, through to yards and associated administration – providing the right mentorship required to motivate team members.
  • Evaluating quality and condition of livestock upon arrival to site, ensuring identified non-compliance issues are managed and communicated accordingly.
  • Entering data into Salesforce for reporting and planning of livestock.
  • Compiling all associated livestock reports to address at routine board meetings.
For a detailed list of responsibilities, a position description can be provided upon request.

About You
The successful applicant will have proven experience managing high-volume livestock operations, whilst providing a hands-on style of leadership.  This role will ideally suit someone with exceptional time and people management skills, and experience in the beef production industry. Adaptable to change, this role will be required to effectively communicate across multiple departments, ensuring clear directions are provided to meet production demands.

Ensuring the highest standard of beef products our clients are accustomed to, the Plant Livestock Manager will need to work collaboratively with Production Departments, Livestock Buyers, Office staff, and external transport providers on a daily basis.

To be considered for the role, it’s important you can address the following criteria:
  • Demonstrable commitment and delivery of Safety & Quality standards
  • Demonstrated experience with cattle, including a strong understanding of animal behaviours and welfare requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership qualities needed to effectively manage and mentor staff.
  • Sound computer literacy.
  • Open Driver’s Licence
Other criteria desirable, though not essential, include:
  • Previous experience in meat processing plant operations.
  • Preferably Q fever vaccinated, however a commitment to being vaccinated is required
  • Qualifications in Animal Welfare, Management, Auditing, or Agriculture (Desirable).
The Benefits:
In addition to joining a successful Australian-owned agribusiness, you will have the opportunity to take part in the ongoing development and growth of the site’s operations.  Other benefits you will receive include:
  • Industry-leading salary package on offer
  • Relocation assistance for non-local applicants
  • Family-friendly roster of 6:00am to 3:00pm
  • Access to staff purchasing of premium meat products.
  • Salary-sacrificing options for vehicles
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program
  • Income protection insurance and flexible leave options
