WHAT
As Lawsons AngusLivestock Manager (NSW) you will have the primary role of project managing the operational and livestock tasks required to manage an intensive seedstock business. This is a busy management role that requires excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team. Expertise in livestock handling, animal health, nutrition, grazing management, fencing and water systems and the ability to operate and maintain heavy agricultural equipment is essential. The successful applicant will be competent with data management and have the ability to analyse the data and report to Senior Management.
Key to your success in this role will be your ability to manage the 2,000 head of Angus breeding females and their progeny. Managing the pasture and feeding of all classes of livestock in terms of measuring, monitoring and assessing daily feed intakes are key deliverables. The responsibility of setting and monitoring feed budgets and formulation of the total mixed rations (TMR) sits with the Livestock Manager. You will add value to the business with your grazing management expertise and ideally you will have a sound understanding of growing and feeding brassica crops – the owners have always been keenly focussed on New Zealand grazing systems. Experience with break feeding mobs is also a key deliverable for the success of this operation.

Our client is looking for an analytically minded Livestock Manager with a passion for genetics and breeding. Being a leader in production, grazing and livestock husbandry are key to success in this role along with the following:
- A strong leader in the field, capable of working on your own plus in a team.
- Be practical, flexible, empathetic with animals and people, hard-working and strategic on the same day.
- Have a strong sense of how reproductive performance impacts business economics.
- Financial acumen and ability to make sound economic decisions will be strongly valued.
- Excellent attention to detail and tidiness are paramount.
- Perform animal husbandry and health management to a high standard.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- An organised and timely approach to your work.
- Competent in pasture management and using methods including rotational grazing to optimise the feed available.
- Technically minded and a good level of computer literacy for recording and reporting.
- Ability to set up and manage farm management software.
- Experience with calving large numbers and tagging, weighing at birth and experience with large scale AI programs preferrable.
