Local History and Heritage Team Leader
- Salary Range Band 6 $93,459 - $101,873 plus 11% Super
- Permanent Full time (35 hours)
- Based predominantly at the Port Phillip Heritage Centre
- Will be required to work across all sites in the Port Phillip Libraries network
- Evening and weekend work is a requirement of this role

About the Role
The Local History and Heritage Team Leader is responsible for delivering a vibrant and inclusive local and family history service through the Port Phillip Heritage Centre and the Port Phillip Library Service. You will lead, develop, and facilitate programs, activities and experiences with a Local History focus, that engage and develop community connection with local stories and places. You will have a passion for your local community and for shining a light on the ‘missing stories’ that make up our diverse community history.
With extensive experience in delivering exceptional customer experiences, you will lead Local History staff in responding to local and family history queries from our library users, researchers and community groups. You will lead the development and curation of a comprehensive collection of Local History resources, including ephemera and reference materials across a variety of physical and digital formats.
As a proven leader, you will be passionate about the Local History and Heritage services of the Port Phillip Heritage Centre and will inspire our staff to take the service to the next level.
Duties:
- Provide library patrons and community members undertaking historical family research with an exceptional customer experience.
- Promote community engagement and awareness of the exceptional services and resources available through the Port Phillip Heritage Centre.
- Develop and curate a comprehensive collection of Local History resources across physical and digital formats with a focus on diversity and capturing missing stories.
- Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders and special interest groups within the library sector, and the wider community.
- Engage with community and use emerging technologies such as podcasting to capture new content to enrich the Port Phillip Heritage collection and service.
Skills and Experience
- A tertiary qualification suitable for the position with relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications with extensive experience.
- Significant industry experience in delivering exceptional customer service experiences.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of events and programs with a Local History or cultural focus.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor and coach staff.
