Job description

About Us
Maitland City Council is a diverse and dynamic organisation in a rapidly growing LGA. We are going through an exciting period of change, including extensive digital transformation. Our new Administration Building recently won the 2024 Newcastle Medal at the Newcastle Architecture Awards making it a vibrant and contemporary place to work. We are excited to add to our highly skilled team and continue to make a true and meaningful impact on our community.

About the role
Maitland LGA is experiencing rapid and sustained growth in all aspects of urban and residential development. As such, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen in the Design and Engineering team at Maitland City Council for a Registered Surveyor.

As our Registered Surveyor you will lead, coordinate, supervise and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of a range of functions and services specific to the Survey section, including but not limited to, engineering and cadastral surveys, traffic counts, survey control and set out for civil projects.

As a natural leader, this role will also coach and mentor a Team Leader and two Engineering Survey Assistants to ensure the survey functions and services meet the objectives of Council, its business plan and the needs of the community.

No two days will be the same, with our Registered Surveyor being responsible for providing Survey services suitable for design of various engineering projects such as urban and rural roadworks, storm water drainage, bridges, footpath and cycle ways, recreation and community facilities, traffic facilities and minor building works.

About you
We are seeking a professional surveyor with strong abilities to lead and manage both people and processes. For success in this role, you will hold degree qualifications in Surveying (BOSSI recognised) coupled with contemporary industry experience and a current Registered Land Surveyor status with BOSSI (or soon to be registered). You will have knowledge in detail engineering, cadastral, volumetric surveying and utility locations along with understanding relevant legislation and Surveyor General's Directions.

You will have a natural ability to lead, coach and support staff and a capacity to forge strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Lastly, your commitment to modelling and promoting a positive workplace culture will be reflected in your own values and your ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation in a respectful and thoughtful manner.

Benefits
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity, working 35 hours per week with a base salary ranging from $111,542 - $123,811 per year based on demonstrated experience + 11% superannuation + commuter use vehicle. You will have access to a number of great benefits including:

  • Work within a challenging and diverse portfolio
  • Flexible work arrangements with a range of options to suit
  • Generous leave entitlements including long service after five years
  • Enjoy working in modern office spaces with excellent facilities.
  • Work within a friendly and supportive environment.
  • Ongoing training and development including access to Council's Educational Assistance Program that can provide financial support for study costs.
  • Free parking… and so much more!
