All NWA Staff, NWA engaged volunteers and Affiliates (which includes Associations, Clubs and Authorised Providers) are responsible for promoting and protecting the interests, safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Management Accountant is responsible for providing financial and management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and administrative support to the Finance Department whilst ensuring efficient and respectful customer service to the organisation. The Management Accountant is also responsible for the day-to-day management of finance support staff and is expected to provide leadership to other members of the finance team.

The Management Accountant will report to the Chief Financial and People Officer and work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders including suppliers, players, contractors, and other key agencies including Netball Australia.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Promote NWA’s purpose of advancing netball and advancing communities together with our values of United, Leadership, Integrity, Courageous, and Excellence
  • Efficient and courteous handling of all internal and external customer service enquiries
  • Overseeing, and when necessary, completion of the accurate processing and timely attendance to all finance daily tasks, including but not limited to, bank reconciliations, petty cash floats, processing of supplier invoices, maintenance of the purchase order system, financial data entry into the accounting system, reconciliation of company credit cards, maintenance of supplier accounts, maintenance of employee accounts, reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable, and processing month end journals (eg: accruals, prepayments, etc)
  • Prepare end of month reporting for NWA, WCF and GJA, including variance analysis, commentary, and cash flows
  • Prepare budget holder reports and meet with budget holders on a regular basis to monitor income and expenditure trends to ensure the organisation’s viability
  • Prepare and assist with the information as needed for Board reports, budget holder and other management reports; assisting with grant acquittals as required, player payments, and all other related reporting matters
  • Oversee the IT systems administrator role, in conjunction with the Chief Financial and People Officer to ensure IT needs of the business are met
  • Assist with the audit process for NWA and GJA, as needed
  • Overseeing the management of NWA and GJA vehicles
  • Overseeing, and when necessary, maintaining and updating the fixed asset register and IT equipment list for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Ensure the Netsuite maintenance and security of relevant records, statistics and financial information relating to the organisation’s activities, including for reporting purposes for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Manage the timely reconciliation of credit cards by the finance team
  • Supporting the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, including provision of templates and system upload of this information
  • Oversee, and when necessary, complete accurate processing of debtor and creditor invoices, and allocate incoming payments, including following up outstanding debtors for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Maintain banking records, and update as necessary, with all relevant forms as provided by the bank for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Assist with cash management policies and investment of funds
  • Oversee, and prepare as needed, the accurate processing of fortnightly payroll and the payment of associated statutory obligations such as monthly superannuation and payroll tax for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Overseeing and as needed, preparing, processing and payment of BAS, STP (single touch payroll), Payroll Tax, FBT returns, when necessary for Netball WA and its subsidiaries
  • Adhere to and comply with NWA policies and procedures
  • Any other duties within the Employee's capabilities and which is reasonable to expect the Employee to undertake as directed by the Group Chief Executive Officer or the Chief Financial and People Officer from time to time

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Formal qualification in accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and finance reconciliations
  • Effective verbal and listening skills and ability to elicit cooperation from a diverse group of people/stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with key stakeholders and compliance bodies and possessing a highly collaborative work ethic
  • Demonstrate a professional approach to confidentiality within the work environment
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adjusts personal style in response to stakeholder/member differences
  • Take initiative and identify areas where improvements can be made to systems and processes
  • Advocate and share best practice operational experiences with peers
  • Build trust and respect and demonstrate the ability to work with all members of the finance team both individually and as a group
  • Develop staff Performance Plans and provide timely and effective feedback on performance
  • Manage own workload and that of the team in a timely manner to ensure deadlines are met
  • Excellent competencies in Information Technology including proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically Excel
  • Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours
  • National Police Clearance
  • At all times ensure a Child Safe environment
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
  • Comply with the Netball Australia Member Protection Policy and Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Comply with the WA Working with Children Check (WWCC) Legislation which means:
  • If your usual duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child under 18 you will be required to obtain a WWCC;
  • If you fall into a WWCC exemption category a National Police Clearance Certificate is required

Desired

  • A current ‘C’ class WA driver’s license
  • Experience in the sport/not-for-profit industry would be highly regarded
