City of Joondalup is located in the fast growing northwest corridor of Perth, with its southern boundary just 15 kilometres from the Central Business District of Perth. With a population of 160,995 and a total land area of approximately 99 square kilometres, the City is one of the largest local governments in Western Australia by population.
Joondalup City Centre has a relaxed, casual atmosphere with a combination of cultural, civic, commercial and residential properties built on the edge of the stunning Lake Joondalup.
Reporting to the Director Governance and Strategy, this exciting and diverse role is assisted by a team of six direct reports (with more than 45 Business Unit employees) and has broad engagement at all levels, including the CEO and Mayor.
Key objectives and responsibilities will include:
- Leveraging the Council’s strengths and opportunities to strategically market a bold, creative and prosperous destination and organisation.
- Maximising engagement with a variety of stakeholders and positively influence decision making across competing stakeholders.
- Applying effective people, financial, project and change management methods to ensure all activities and services meet the City and community expectations in terms of delivery, satisfaction and budget.
- Proactively monitoring the political landscape and industry trends, to strategically inform and support Council’s decision-making processes.
- Providing effective and inspiring leadership to team members and a culture which encourages involvement, effectiveness, safety and wellbeing.
- Developing and implementing strategies and policies to ensure the integrity of corporate information systems.
- Ensuring compliance with statutory governance requirements.
This role will suit a highly experienced, engaging and agile Communications specialist, with inspiring leadership capability, and outstanding communication skills in all settings.
Ideally tertiary qualified and/or possessing demonstrable relevant experience from a similar environment including local, state or federal government, or a strong community or service delivery focussed sector.
Politically astute, with the ability to operate flexibly across a wide range of functions and audiences, your past experience in helping to drive technology and customer service based initiatives will be critical to success.
