What is the CopperString Project?


CopperString 2032 is the largest economic development project in North Queensland, and one of the largest expansions to the power grid in Australia.

The CopperString project will build 840 kilometres of transmission line from just south of Townsville in the Burdekin region to Mount Isa with the highest voltage levels in the state.

This project will further unlock the renewable energy potential of this region.


Location: This position can either be based in Townsville or Brisbane and will require regular travel to North Queensland regional areas.

As our Manager Community and Stakeholders you will be reporting to the Project Director for the CopperString 2032 project and support the project delivery team in the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategies and plans. In this key role, you will ensure that the project team considers and addresses community interests and expectations, fosters effective community engagement practices and supports the project’s alignment with the expectations of stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in stakeholder and industry events to enhance stakeholder engagement
  • Establish and implement a comprehensive community investment and engagement strategy, including a formal project engagement plan, local industry participation plan and a proactive media strategy for the project.
  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of stakeholder engagement experts
  • Ensure that community engagement processes adhere to regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Develop best practice communication plans to keep stakeholders informed about project developments, milestones and potential impacts, incl. addressing conflicts and disagreements

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Public Relations, Communication, Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, community relations, preferably within energy, infrastructure or a related sector.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and leading teams on highly complex or large-scale projects.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders and understand their perspectives.
  • Familiarity with local community dynamics and stakeholder engagement best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
