Job Requisition ID: 19752

About Us

Deloitte Access Economics is Australia’s premier economic consultancy. We offer a suite of economic and policy advisory services to clients across government and the private and not-for-profit sectors. We assist clients spanning Australia and the Asia Pacific region and we pride ourselves on providing the highest calibre analysis and advice.

This role is based in the Macroeconomic Policy and Forecasting team of Deloitte Access Economics. For many years the team has produced reliable macroeconomic analysis and forecasts for clients who value the rigorous quantitative analysis that supports the economic advice we deliver.

Economic modelling forms the backbone for most of our work, including policy and strategic advice, research and analysis, reporting on macroeconomic trends, and producing forecasts for our clients. We maintain a number of proprietary in-house economic models, which are supplemented by a wide range of specialised models tailored for individual client needs.

The opportunity

You will be joining a team of innovative and passionate economists to support policy design, macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, strategic planning and economic due diligence. Our advice applies a variety of analytical frameworks, models and techniques informed by economic theory. In this role you will be able to contribute to a variety of client engagements and publications nationally on a project by project basis.

The successful applicant will ideally be based in either Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney. Exceptional applicants who are based in other locations will also be considered.

About the role

You can expect to:

  • Work with policymakers seeking to address some of the most complex problems facing the economy
  • Lead small project teams in producing high quality economic analysis and advice, liaising directly with clients
  • Support and guide more junior economists to assist capability and skill development
  • Work closely with industry clients to understand their business needs and provide strategic advice on how to respond to changes in the economy
  • Maintain and develop economic models to produce forecasts and scenario analysis
  • Communicate and present economic analysis and recommendations, deepening your client relationships and industry knowledge
  • Lead multiple projects and publications in an agile, fast paced environment
  • Work in a collaborative national team environment.

Relevant experience

Successful applicants will have:

  • A passion for economics and its ability to make a positive impact that matters to society
  • Experience in applying economic theory to real world issues in a policy or commercial context
  • A strong record of project and team leadership, including experience managing small teams to deliver complex advice to an exceptional standard
  • Experience in quantitative analysis involving economic modelling and data analysis, preferably with the ability to code in R and/or Eviews.
  • The ability to communicate complex analysis in clear, non-technical terms
  • A team player with a determination to succeed
  • Formal qualifications in economics with a preference for honours or post graduate level
  • Minimum five years of experience as a professional economist in industry, consulting or the public sector.
