Douglas Shire Council are hiring exceptional individuals, who are looking for a challenge to help the Shire to Restore Paradise following the devastating impacts of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
In an unprecedented weather event, the Douglas Shire was impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. Recovery work has been extensive and intense, and our beautiful Shire continues to shine as we welcome back visitors and restore confidence in our world-class destination.
As the Shire continues its disaster recovery efforts, several new roles have been created with Douglas Shire Council to undertake the important work of rebuilding Queensland's tropical haven, including this role Manager Water and Wastewater.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer the Manager Water and Wastewater is responsible for leading, planning, organising and controlling all water, wastewater and trade waste functions of Council including protecting the interests of Douglas Shire Council Water & Wastewater Operations, Executive Management and the public in the event of an emergent situation arising.
You will ensure compliance with all legislative and statutory requirements associated with Local Government water, wastewater and trade waste operations, develop strategies for the delivery of water, wastewater and trade waste services to optimise outcomes for Council and the community.
This is a critical role for Council and the community as they make their way through the recovery phase and as such you must bring a demonstrated track record of success as a Senior Manager in a large diverse organisation with extensive experience and knowledge in the operation and maintenance of Water & Waste Water treatment systems and a working knowledge of relevant Legislation associated with supply of drinking water, environmental legislation and reporting requirements for water, wastewater and recycled water.
You will need to be outcomes focussed, think critically, be innovative in delivery, but also deeply anchored to systems and processes to excel in this position.
As a leader you will provide direction and support to a multidisciplinary team with a focus on efficiency, achievement and innovation in an environment of continuous improvement. You will have experience embedding a safety culture and working collaboratively across the whole organisation. You will also bring demonstrated high levels of communication, consultative, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
Tertiary qualifications in Civil (Water & Wastewater), Process, Environmental Engineering or similar are essential along with extensive experience in management of water and wastewater systems in local government environment are required. RPEQ Certification is essential, or eligibility to obtain.
