We are currently seeking a 1st engineer onboard our Floating Crane to join our team at the Bauxite Hills project, Skardon River, North Queensland.
The TSA Skardon is a purpose-built transshipment crane barge designed and constructed by Damen in 2020. This 63-meter vessel is specifically engineered for loading bulk cargo from barges onto ships.

The TSA Skardon is equipped with state-of-the-art crane technology and specialised equipment to facilitate efficient and safe loading operations. With its robust construction and innovative design, it plays a crucial role in the logistics chain, ensuring the seamless transfer of cargo between vessels.
This is FIFO position on a 2:2 roster for someone that ideally lives in Queensland.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, The First Engineers role is to assist in the upkeep, maintenance, and operation of machinery and deck equipment and to provide deck support where possible.
The First Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that when they are on watch in the vessel’s machinery space(s), are maintained and operated in accordance with the terms of reference laid down in the Chief Engineer’s Standing Orders
- Maintaining and servicing the onboard machinery equipment whilst on duty watch as allocated by rank in the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), assuring the efficient and readiness of all systems onboard Floating Crane
- Effective management of engineering personnel
- Supporting technical personnel as required
- Maintaining the correct liquid state and vessel stability
- Monitor condition of crane wire ropes and carry out regular crane wire inspection
- Working with the Chief Engineer to ensure all PMS tasks of the Vessel are completed on time
- Administration of PMS tasks completed
- Providing housekeeping duties for all machinery spaces
- Provision, storage, and disposal of consumable materials onboard
- Organisation of engine room stores
- Cleaning of the engine room
- Ensuring Engine Logbook is kept for the watch and all machinery entries are correct with any deficiencies brought to the attention of the Chief Engineer
- Vessel defects register
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- MED1
- Certificate of Safety Training (CoST / STCW 95)
- AMSA medical
- Working at heights
- Confined space entry
- Dogging / Rigging
- Familiar with electronic PMS system
- Knowledge and experience of Hydraulic equipment (pumps & motors)
- Knowledge and experience of caterpillar generators
- Maintain inventory levels on board with emphasis on critical spares requirements
- Safety focused
- Ability to live and work in a small team environment
- Excellent communication skills
- A flexible and adaptable approach to changing demands.
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of the project & outcomes
- Ability to remain composed working under pressure or to deadlines, particularly in emergency situations.
- Prior experience in a similar role
