The Role 

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated candidate to join our Market Operations Team. Located in Canberra and within our Operations Division, you will be a dedicated team player with high standards, attention to detail and the ability to deliver a first-class professional Monitoring and Control service.

Key responsibilities: 

• Monitor & control of assets via SCADA systems, reacting to plant alerts and contingency events in the NEM.  
• Interface with Network Service Providers (NSP), Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), the wider Squadron Energy operational team and other applicable entities regarding asset outages, generation constraints and/or specific production and network conditions.  
• Maintain a strong understanding of NER/NEM compliance requirements and contribute to compliance plans for Squadron Energy’s assets. 
• Bid in the NEM according to internal trading strategies. 
• Monitor market dispatch solutions and activities of Squadron Energy’s assets as well as other NEM participants via IT systems to optimise dispatch outcomes. 
• Liaise with maintenance contractors to maximise availability as directed by the Market Operations Manager. 
• Meet daily audit requirements and provide real-time operational and revenue performance statuses of Squadron Energy’s assets. 
• Draft and maintain up to date departmental operations procedures and guides. 
• Work closely with the Market Operations Manager in proposing, scoping and leading the development of new tools and processes, improving the Operation Centres long-term operational, analytical and reporting capabilities. 
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of processes and procedures within the Operations Centre. 

About you 

You will have: 

• An interest in the renewables or utility industry. 
• The ability to perform under a rotating roster than includes weekends and night shifts. 
• Working knowledge of utility, wind and solar power generation and protection components, including SCADA and HMI systems (desirable). 
• Understanding of the National Electricity Market (NEM) dispatch process (desirable). 
• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in Engineering, Data Science, IT or Finance.  
• A high level of experience working within Microsoft Excel and have intermediary working knowledge of other programs including SCADA systems, SQL or other programming languages. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to perform under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
