Eclipse FNQ Charters is a well-established busy CHARTER VESSEL that operates liveaboard fishing charters Ex- Weipa between March -November and then research charters between these dates around the Torres Straits, Northern GBR section. Our 19m purpose built catamaran accommodates up to 12 guests plus 5 crew.
Our charters are run in remote locations so any person that applies must be comfortable with working and living remote for extended periods. This is a family owned and operated business and we will provide owner/operator hand over support and guidance.
MASTER/ENGINEER
The Vessel Master oversees and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all aspects of the vessel.
The Vessel Master is responsible for ensuring all guests are satisfied with the onboard experience and managing crew members onboard.
Essential Criteria:
- Master under 24m
- Marine Engine Grade 2
- Current First Aid including CPR
- RSA (or willing to get it)
- Drivers License
- Previous experience as Master with management and crew leadership skills
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be confident with leading and motivating crew ensuring standards are being met. This will mainly consist of the Hostess and Chef crew as fishing guides are contractors.
- Good engineering background with the experience and ability to perform planned and ongoing maintenance and repairs as needed. Experience with water cooled machinery, desalination plant, air conditioning systems, generators, diesel engines and outboard engines. We want someone that is continually improving the upkeep of the vessel during the season. Ensuring the vessel is in ‘charter ready’ condition at all times.
- Assisting in all aspects of the operation. Being an all rounder that will willingly jump in and help crew where needed
- Keeping the exterior and interior of the vessel maintained to a high standard of cleanliness
- Re-fuelling vessel which includes land based and alongside fuelling.
- Safely navigate and manoeuvre vessel
- Be able to work completely unsupervised
- Be physically fit and well presented
- Knowledge and an interest in fishing is a benefit to be able to engage with customers.
- Setting and checking crab pots

- All crew must be willing to adapt to change and help out in all areas of the operation.
- Ability to live in close quarters with other crew members
- An attention to detail in all aspects
- Have pride in your work and maintain our high standards
- Be clean and tidy and well presented
- Be confident with interacting with charter guests

ROSTER: This is a contract position with a 6 week casual trial period. Roster is negotiated.
START DATE: August 2024
- Must be committed to the position as live-in. We will arrange time off during season as required but you would need to be prepared to do extended stints during the season.
