Joining our structural integrity team supporting defence applications you will be focussing on forensic engineering and Wear Debris Analysis (WDA).This opportunity will see you bringing your knowledge of materials science to a Defence / Aerospace / Aviation environment, where you will be supporting the Australian Defence Force. This hands on role, based in Port Melbourne, will see you develop your knowledge in this fascinating area.Your knowledge of materials engineering / science will see you identifying and resolving failures to ensure the safety and reliability of critical assets supporting the ADF.Collaborating with cross-functional teams, this role will see you developing skills in;
- Conducting thorough forensic investigations to identify root causes across various materials and components.
- Preparing comprehensive scientific and engineering reports that detail findings and actionable recommendations.
- Utilising advanced methods including optical and electron microscopy, metallography, and other lab techniques for forensic examinations.
- Providing expert technical guidance to internal stakeholders and clients to interpret failure analysis results effectively.
- Materials interpretation and characterisation
- The use of scientific laboratory equipment including optical and scanning electron microscope and metallography.
- Scientific report writing
- The understanding of materials failures, specifically those related fatigue and corrosion
