Selection criteria
ESSENTIAL
- The ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with a good grasp of english
- Ability to work independently, be self motivated and multitask
- Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people including patients, Hospital staff, other Medical/ Allied Health staff
- Assisting Medical staff & supporting patients with procedures and examinations
DESIRABLE
- The position will suit someone who has worked in a Medical Reception Role in a Medical/Allied health field. Experience in a Women's health practice would be an advantage.
- Previous experience with Medical Benefits Schedule, Medical billing and proficient in the use of Gentu.
- Working knowledge of Windows based software systems (eg Word, Excel) and use of Apple iMac computers
- An understanding of medical terminology, medical and allied health professional organisations and relevant stakeholders.
Duties
- Answer the phone in a courteous and professional manner
- Receive and convey messages in writing, verbally and electronically
- Liaise with patients and their families in a compassionate manner
- Liaise with GPs, other health professionals and their staff including contacting other clinics for patient results
- Liaise with patients and staff in co-ordinating Theatre lists
- Make patient appointments, communicate messages from Medical staff including results.
- Fax, scan and file documents. Enter and maintain accurate patient records.
- Type documents as required, with a high level of accuracy. Receive, manage and dispatch mail.
- Place orders for stationery and clinical supplies as directed and maintain a working supply at all times.
- Contribute equitably to maintaining the cleanliness of the practice. Clean and disinfect examination area and instruments as needed. Clean examination towels weekly.
- Maintain Practice dress standards
- Accurate handling of cash, EFTPOS and other payments. Communicate with patients regarding fees and payments. Manage daily invoicing for medicare and health funds.
- Any other administrative duties as directed by the Practice Doctor.
- Assist in clinical situations by opening instruments and handling specimens as directed.
Safety and quality and culture
- Participate in the practice risk management and quality improvement processes.
- Practice duty of care including meeting practice standards and accountability.
- Maintain patient and practice confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure the practice work spaces are conducive to a safe and practical work environment.
- Actively contribute to the development of a culture consistent with the values of the Practice (team work, integrity and excellence).
Hours of work
This position requires an average of 37.5 hours per week. However from time to time the employee may be required to work reasonable additional hours, as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the position as requested by the employer. This may include working outside of business hours.
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Undertake a pre-employment interview
- Provide appropriate references for contact as requested by the Practice
- Participate in orientation to the Practice
- Participate in a performance appraisal process as required
Position review
This position will be reviewed in three months initially and then on an annual basis
Applicants require:
- Current CPR training in the last 3 years or willingness to participate in such training
- Australian citizenship or work rights for Australia
- Current Australian National Police check and Vulnerable person related employment check for SA
- Up to date vaccination- influenza, hepatitis B, whooping cough and Covid.
