The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is a non-Government Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
The Medicare Officer will be responsible for providing support to the clinic and clinical teams regarding Medicare billing and compliance, private and other relevant billings and compliance, Practice Incentive Programs, and Medicare related initiatives. This role is crucial in ensuring the organisation meets its billing and compliance obligations. The Medicare Officer will work closely with both the Data Analytics and Contracts Manager and the Practice Manager, to ensure seamless integration and alignment of Medicare-related activities within the clinic's operations. Below is just a snapshot of this role:
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items.
- Monitor Medicare billings, identifying missed opportunities.
- Serve as the primary contact for Medicare-related compliance, update providers on changes, and assist with accreditation preparation.
- Develop and maintain a Medicare Compliance Program, provide MBS item education, and create patient information resources.
Essential Aspects and Criteria
- Strong knowledge of the Medicare system
- Ability to take direction, determine priorities and manage workloads in order to meet agreed timelines and objectives.
- Intermediate to advanced competence in Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision.
Desirable Criteria
- A certificate or tertiary qualification which would be relevant to the position
- Experience with Communicare
