This role specifies Mental Health Support Worker - Supported Independent Living roles for persons of a particular gender to meet the needs of the participants in accordance with an exemption granted from sections 8, 10, 25, 27 & 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
Your Journey Your Choice Support Services are looking for Support Workers with open availability, with shifts usually occurring between 8am-8am, 8am-6pm and both Active and sleepover overnights
- Certificate IV in Community Service/Disability Services or equivalent qualification with equivalent experience in the disability or mental health, OOHC sectors.
- Must have a driver's licence and reliable transport
- Roadworthy and Insured Vehicle
- Current First Aid & CPR-valid.
- National Police Clearance within last 12 months.
- NDIS 'Worker Orientation' module
- Proof of Australian working rights
- Current paid employee Blue Card
- Current paid employee Yellow Card/NDIS Worker Clearance.
- Smart phone with internet access
- Two current (within the past 2 years) professional references. One of those references will be required from a Supervisor/ Management role.
- A responsible attitude and strong rapport building skills – strong skills in maintaining positive, dignified and respectful relationships with participants, their families and other health and Support Workers.
- Ability to use clear and concise language in verbal communication and set clear boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to calmly de-escalate emotive situations.
- Ability to apply understanding of ‘duty of care’ to delivering support services and escalate issues when required.
- Demonstrated ability to write and maintain accurate written records and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
As a Support Worker, you will be required to:
Work well with all ages. (children/teens/adults and the elderly)
Have a nurturing and empathetic nature.
Experience within the home care sector and NDIS is preferred but not essential.
Understanding psychosocial disabilities is preferred but not essential.
Help with domestic assistance, meal preparation and shopping.
Assist with transport to and from errands, providing companionship and social support.
Personal care, including showering, dressing, and continence care.
Be committed to providing consumer-directed care.
