The role:
- Conduct microbiological tests for a broad range of bacteria on food and water samples.
- Liaise with clients and other members of the public service.
- Perform quality assurance monitoring to National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) standards.
- Assist in the maintenance of protocols, equipment, quality control and supplies of consumables to ensure an uninterrupted service as far as possible.
The site:
The Public Health Laboratory is collocated with the NRE chemical laboratory Analytical Services Tasmania in the St Johns Park precinct. There are four other staff in the Public Health laboratory and approximately 40 in AST.
Details of Appointment
Fixed Term part time, day worker position working 30.4 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 September 2023.

- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
- Some overtime may be required.
- This position involves handling known microbial pathogens such as Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria spp. (especially relevant to pregnant females).

Salary:
64,072 to $98,027 pro-rata, per annum + 10.5% superannuation
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $724 per annum for the ability to accrue fund up to five years
- Post graduate qualification salary advancement where applicable
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria: * A tertiary qualification majoring in microbiology, including microbiology subjects relevant to food and water microbiology.
