The Society’s Migrant and Refugee Program connects and empowers children and young people from a migrant, refugee, or asylum seeker background to support them to thrive in their new communities. The Position
We are seeking an energetic and values-driven individual with strong cultural awareness to join our team as a Migrant and Refugee Program, Youth Liaison Officer. This is your opportunity to combine a passion for cultural inclusion with a commitment to providing positive outcomes for children from Migrant and Refugee backgrounds. Working as part of a vibrant and committed team, including volunteers, you will help deliver our strength-based, trauma informed and relationship focused programs, including In Schools programs and Kids Clubs.
The Program provides additional learning support to children from a migrant or refugee background, while also building their social connections in the broader community. It is founded on the understanding that, while children from Migrant and Refugee backgrounds often face numerous challenges and complex transitions upon settling into Australia, they also bring a range of strengths and a well-developed sense of resilience. Using a strengths-based approach, we seek to ensure that the children achieve their full potential as active and engaged members of their local community.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will require a strong work ethic, excellent communication and relationship building skills and a commitment to collaboration and innovation. Bringing a clear understanding of the refugee experience, the settlement process and challenges arising from these, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on our community. We strongly encourage people with lived experience as a migrant or refugee to apply. We also greatly value people who can speak languages other than English.
Your Qualifications
You will have, or be working towards, a tertiary qualification or equivalent in a human service-related field such as community services, education, youth work or related discipline and/or have 1-3 years’ experience in these fields, including settlement services. You will require a current WWVP card, current ACT or NSW Driver’s License and First Aid certification or be willing to obtain them.
