Job tasks and responsibilities
- Providing specialised mine engineering support to operations in the areas of design, project management, supervision and operational input to ensure the timely delivery of projects
- Develop and/or maintain an accurate & validated mining model for the client's current and planned operation for integration in the short term, medium term, and LOM (Life of Mine) mine plan.
- Effectively communicate known mining risks/hazards to the client's business.
- Provide mining advice, fit for purpose and cost-effective mining strategies, sufficient to support the client's mine plans and schedules.
- Critically review and, when satisfied the risks are controlled, approve mining strategies regarding the mining conditions and risks to the operation.
- Perform all statutory requirements to ensure compliance with all regards to strata control and the client's Principal Hazard management Plans.
- Perform all operational & reporting functions required to fulfill the client’s requirements of the role of mining Engineer.
- Handle contract management &/or project supervision.
Skills and experience
- Degree or Masters level qualifications in Mine Engineering
- +5 Years operational or consulting experience in Underground Coal operations
- Design and analysis experience using industry standard software, such as Rocscience packages, Maptek software or Itasca software
- Safety focused with a strong commitment to professional engineering standards
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining mining models for operational and planning purposes.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey mining risks and strategies to stakeholders.
- Ability to provide fit-for-purpose and cost-effective mining strategies.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to review and approve mining strategies.
- Proficiency in monitoring and reporting on ground conditions and strata deformation.
- Knowledge of statutory requirements and compliance related to strata control and hazard management.
- Experience in contract management and/or project supervision in the mining industry is advantageous.
- Excellent report writing and analytical skills
