About the role:

An opportunity for one (1) x Occupational Health & Safety Consultant (Psychosocial) to be part of our Health and Wellbeing Hub for the Southern Region, located in Dandenong.

The Health and Wellbeing Hub is the single most significant investment in the health, safety, and wellbeing of Victoria Police employees to prevent and respond to work related injuries. Six multi-disciplinary teams are being established, based in hubs across the state, with a focus on enhancing employee's mental health, injury prevention, early intervention, and recovery support.

This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to support Victoria Police employees. You will work on the ground in our Police Stations, travelling across the region as required to meet our people where they are located and deliver advice and support in person. 

The Occupational Health and Safety Consultant (Psychosocial) will be responsible for partnering with managers to assist them in meeting their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 through a coaching and capability development model. This may involve assisting managers to identify psychosocial hazards in their work areas, preparing prevention plans, conducting quality investigations to hazards and incidents, and monitoring risk controls.

Reporting to the Hub Manager, the position will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team providing Occupational Health and safety advice to Victoria Police employees and management with a particular focus on psychosocial risks and hazards.

Your duties will include:

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide specialised insight into psychosocial Occupational Health and safety risks and hazards
  • Support managers to fulfil their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 with particular attention on the proposed psychosocial regulations.
  • Provide tailored advice and coaching to empower managers to uplift their capability in managing psychosocial risks and hazards in the workplace.
  • Guide managers in developing and implementing comprehensive workplace Occupational Health and safety prevention plans, conducting risk assessments, investigations, and implementing effective risk controls.
  • Provide managers and employees with information, tools, and resources to manage psychosocial risks and hazards in the workplace and ensure the organisation's safety management system is followed.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and its application into a large or complex organisation.
  • Expertise in identifying and mitigating workplace psychosocial risks and hazards, with a proven track record in developing, implementing, and evaluating effective controls.
  • Proven experience collaborating closely with management to provide tailored advice and coaching to build organisational capabilities.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate persuasively and effectively across all organisational levels and with external stakeholders, supported by strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline is required.
  • A qualification and/or industry experience working within a mental health discipline is highly desirable.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Dandenong Police Complex, 50 Langhorne Street, Dandenong.
  • This position requires regular travel, applicants must hold a current Driver's Licence.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
