Title: Occupational Therapist (full time/part time) (OT)
Program area: Child therapy and family support
Reports to: Ignite Allied Health (business owner and principal OT)
Organisation context:
Ignite Allied Health is a privately owned occupational therapy (OT) practice that has been in operation since 2020. It has grown from a small one-person business to a broader team of Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Assistants, with a key focus on paediatric clients. As we grow we have found a need for an OT.
The OT will work with children aged between 0 – 18 years and provide support to the broader team. The position will oversee the Allied Health Assistants, and train to provide team leader support. The OT position offers opportunity to consult with experienced OTs, as well as access to continuing professional development.
Role purpose:
The purpose of this role, is to provide assessment and intervention for children aged 0 – 18 years and to provide support to their families, through the provision of appropriate clinical interventions. The approach will be family centered, under the social model of health.
It is also aimed at providing support to the team as a senior and then team leader in the future.
Tasks:
- In partnership with the family, provide assessment, program development and implementation for children, parent/care-givers and relevant others, eg kindergarten teachers / child care workers.
- Development, implementation and evaluation of specifically targeted individual therapy sessions, ensuring families are informed of the nature of interventions, requirements of family and expected outcomes.
- Provide comprehensive reports to care-givers following assessment, including provision of strategies to assist care-givers and educators, as appropriate.
- Ensure that client files are maintained and managed in accordance with Ignite Allied Health services policies.
- Communicate effectively with care-givers, including provision of termly progress reports and weekly therapy session notes for school and kindy based clients.
- Manage and organize case load, including liaising with schools and kindies, as well as parents, as to suitable therapy days and appropriate spaces for therapeutic intervention within the community;
- Identify and maintain appropriate links with pre-school staff, school teachers and other educators and other service providers as appropriate.
- Develop understanding of local services and networks, participate as appropriate and maintain internal and external service provider networks to ensure effective referrals and secondary consultation.
- Regular attendance at supervision, both as supervisor and supervisee
Key selection criteria:
- A demonstrated practice orientation that supports inclusion principles in relation to children with developmental delays / disabilities.
- A commitment to working within a social model of health.
- A commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Approved qualification in occupation therapy.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with a variety of service delivery models.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team.
- Eligibility for national registration with occupational therapy Australia.
- A knowledge of recent developments and evidence based practice in the management of occupational therapy practice relevant to pre-school and school aged children
- Current driver’s license.
- Current police check.
Highly desirable:
- Experience in community health settings.
