About us:
The Cairns Hospital Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) is a 33 bedded unit aiming to improve efficiency in the hospital admission process for acute medical patients by providing assessment, care and treatment for a designated period of no more than 48 hours, prior to transfer to an inpatient ward or discharge home. MAU provides comprehensive multidisciplinary patient-centred care, by dedicated teams of hospital staff linked with community-based professionals.

About you:
In your new role you will…
- Demonstrate knowledge, expertise and skill in Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention in the acute hospital setting including demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
- Possess highly developed interpersonal skills, including resilience, communication and problem solving, suitable for functioning as a professional service provider in a multidisciplinary setting, interacting with community agencies and external stakeholders. Experience in a cross-cultural setting is advantageous.
- Demonstrate ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
About your role:
- Utilise increasing professional and clinical knowledge, expertise and clinical decision-making skills to enhance service delivery in line with clinical and departmental work instructions, under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician.
- Actively participating in the development of clinical instructions and procedures under the guidance of senior clinicians.
- Developing clinical practice knowledge and expertise through self-directed learning, active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities and regular performance and development plans.
- Contributing to the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities including effective risk management in order to enhance the delivery of safe and efficient Occupational Therapy clinical services.
