Working within the Qantas Safety & Health team, the Claims Officer is part of a centralised national support service that is responsible for managing workers compensation claims and injury management. You will be registering and managing a workers compensation claim portfolio in a self-insured environment and responsible for making decisions on claim liability, gathering medical and factual information, determining reasonable medical treatment and services, implementing achievable return to work goals, processing of medical accounts, preparation of files in accordance with the legislation, guidelines and sensitive privacy provisions and delivering high level customer service standards. You will be required to adhere to the relevant claims management compliance guidelines.

As a Claims Officer you will be responsible for timely and accurate processing of workers compensation claims in accordance with departmental procedures, legislative requirements and timeframes, accessing and maintaining claim cost estimates to ensure accurate financial performance and actuarial reporting and monitoring individualised claims management strategies to reduce the human and financial impact of these claims. Involvement of review and authorisation of medical and other benefits following consideration of applicable legislation, company policy and relevant EBA's. Delivery of expert specialised advice and support to line managers, HR and other key customers will be vital to this role.

You'll have:

  • Higher School certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years workers compensation claims management experience
  • Intermediate working knowledge of legislative workers compensation framework & timeframes
  • Ability to manage complex workers compensation issues/procedures
  • Well-developed verbal and written skills
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build constructive and effective working relationships
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Evidence of high-level attention to accuracy and detail
  • Workers compensation self-insurance experience (highly regarded
