The team
Financial Markets & Treasury Operations forms part of Institutional Banking Services under Group Operations.
Institutional Banking Services supports the Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) and we pride ourselves on being a business unit that is equipped to meet the ever-changing needs of the market, while remaining committed to our different customers, stakeholders, and products.
Financial Markets & Treasury Operations is managed through its Central Hub in Sydney utilising a 24 hour follow the sun model.
The broader business is responsible for processing and settlement of Bilateral and Syndicated loan transactions, including Bank Guarantees, Asset Finance and Securitisation.
The Securities & Derivative Operations team provide product settlement and clearing for European & Domestic Bonds, Money Market products/deposits, Derivatives and Treasury processing.
The Role
The key focus of this role is to create and maintain a business unit that is focussed on increasing customer satisfaction, developing a high performing and skilled workforce and cost-efficient business practices. The role operates in accordance with Compliance & Privacy requirements and manages operational risk effectively.
Daily Operational processing ensuring that all payment, confirmation, reconciliation and investigation obligations have been met and that customer service levels are maintained at the highest level.
Central Operational contact for loan markets or trade related queries. Responsible for owning the investigation and providing a resolution to both internal and external clients.
Appropriate escalation to Supervisor and Manager of BAU issues
Ensure accurate checklist completion and escalation of any items that are not actioned on a daily basis.
Work closely with Shift Peers to ensure effective physical daily handover of work between Shifts 1 (Sydney), 2 (London) and 3 (NY) to support the seamless transition between shifts and the effective running of the 24-hour global operation
Actively and positively engage in ‘huddles’ and formal team meetings.
Ensure inputs into Active Operations Management (AOM) and Error Capture (IORAF) platforms are timely, consistent and accurate.
Work with your colleagues to build accurate procedures of current processes ensuring they are always kept up to date.
Work closely with Supervisor and Manager to actively engage in cross training within the team.
Embrace change initiatives and work to implement them as seamlessly as possible ensuring all checklists and procedures are updated where necessary
Identify opportunities for system and process enhancements and communicate to your Supervisor/Manager for review and possible implementation.
Ownership of training and development needs to ensure that you have the tools to do the job required.
Ensure you understand the risk environment in which you operate and ask questions where necessary.
Ensure all mandatory training is completed e.g. Financial Services Reform training.
Proactively partner with Trading, Sales Desks and Relationship Managers to achieve the best outcomes for our customers.
About you
We are looking for a talented person who demonstrates:
Minimum 2 years industry experience.
Specific product knowledge advantageous (Loan Markets debt product, derivatives, Securities & Money Market financial transactions).
Specific system knowledge advantageous (Austraclear , RITS , Euroclear , Murex)
Excellent focus on attention to detail with the capability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Energetic and motivated, able to work well inside a group and broadly across an organisation.
Confident and articulate communicator.
Positive and enthusiastic approach to acquiring product and systems knowledge.
Flexible team player with the ability to work under pressure.
