Job Summary:

As a Customer Development Manager (CDM) at Hill's Pet Nutrition, you will be instrumental in forging and enhancing our omnichannel partnership with Greencross Ltd, encompassing both Petbarn retail and online channels, as well as Greencross Vet services. With a combined portfolio worth $48 million in net sales, your role is pivotal in achieving our ambitious sales targets, securing optimal product placement, and executing promotional strategies with excellence

In this role, you will:

- Develop and execute comprehensive sales and business plans for our key strategic customer, ensuring alignment with our corporate objectives

- Manage customer and joint business plans with a focus on Petbarn retail, online, and Greencross Vet, while negotiating trading terms to optimise our market position

- Foster deep customer engagement and execute the 6Ps with precision to maintain Hill's as the preferred partner in super-premium pet nutrition

- Lead by example in key account management, setting best practices within the team and maintaining high levels of collaboration with the commercial team throughout the sales planning process

- Articulate the technical superiority and commercial advantages of Hill's products to key accounts, ensuring our brand remains at the forefront of the industry

- Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to build strong, strategic relationships with Greencross Ltd, drive sales growth, and position Hill's Pet Nutrition as the leader in pet health through our innovative product offerings

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements agreed annual business plans for Tier 1 customer, aligning with the company's strategic objectives
  • Achieves sales volume and net sales targets
  • Enhances shelf space and visibility for Hill’s products to ensure prominent placement and brand presence
  • Secures rapid acceptance/distribution of NPD, as well as increased distribution for existing product lines.
  • Works collaboratively with the customer and the commercial team to deliver on Joint Business Plan (JBP) category initiatives
  • Develops business plans that align with Greencross Ltd's strategy across both pet retail and veterinary clinic channels
  • Leverages business analytics to drive fact-based discussions and improve Return on Investment (ROI) outcomes
  • Develops and implements promotional plans that meet customer needs and align with the overall sales and marketing strategies
  • Monitors competitor activity within each account, formulates and executes appropriate responses, and ensures relevant competitor intelligence is communicated within the team
  • Monitors the achievement of sales objectives with each major account, identifies opportunities for business development, and implements corrective actions as necessary
  • Maintains close relationships with key decision-makers in each account to foster and uphold strong partnerships between the company and its customers
  • Drives integrated commercial planning within the customer development team, ensuring a cohesive approach to market
  • Collaborates closely with the commercial team to align internal plans with customer timelines and monitor progress effectively
  • Communicates agreed-upon customer support and business development activities to all relevant functions accurately and promptly
  • Partners with retail marketing to develop and execute category projects that align with customer needs and market trends
  • Prepares detailed commercial plans, including Return on Investment (ROI) analysis, as part of the planning process
  • Implements Commercial Value Planning (CVP) by allocating commercial investment into the 6Ps activities that are in line with Regional/Brand strategies
  • Enhances forecasting and business planning accuracy using the ATLAS system in collaboration with Customer Service & Logistics (CS&L)
  • Develops and seeks approval for action plans to address performance gaps with major customers, following the established Commercial Process
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Customer Development Director, providing regular updates on business performance and competitive challenges
  • Mentor and enhance the skills of the Customer Development Executive (CDE) for Petbarn/Greencross, focusing on best practice key account management and the application of analytics
  • Play an active role within the commercial team, contributing to the refinement and improvement of commercial processes
  • Ensure prompt and efficient management of all key account-related administration, including the processing of claims and invoices.
  • Collaborate closely with the eCommerce, Digital, and Marketing teams to enhance the Petbarn online business, ensuring the implementation of core eCommerce principles and engaging online activations
  • Achieve sales volume, net sales, and market share targets for Petbarn online across both the Science Diet and Prescription Diet brands
  • Guarantee the attainment of key eCommerce sales fundamentals, such as maintaining high content standards, optimizing search relevance, accelerating new product development (NPD) speed to market, and increasing share of advocacy

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Basic qualifications include:  Tertiary qualified 
  • Preferred qualifications include:  Business related

Expected Areas of Skills 

  • Sales experience in an FMCG or nutrition company
  • Sales management experience desirable
  • Knowledge in Pet / Vet and eComm channels an advantage
  • Strategic vision
  • Computer literate (advanced Google Slides (or Powerpoint) and Excel skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment, collaborating with others to meet customer needs while achieving Hill’s goals
