Thiess has recently been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full-service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul, water management and rehabilitation as well as the construction of the mine infrastructure.About The RoleBy joining our team, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a new workforce that is focused on developing a strong performance culture and a culture that values everyone's contribution equally. As Open Cut Examiner, you will consistently look to identify hazards and risks through regular inspections, audits and behavioural observations.Working an even-time 7/7 roster , your duties will include:
- Assist the SSE in implementing the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) to maintain compliance in accordance with all the relevant legislation and strive beyond compliance.
- Play an active role in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified, documented and implement corrective actions in consultation with relevant parties.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and auditing the SHMS relating to the mining activities in and around the mine excavation.
- Lead, coach, and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and mentoring team members whilst reinforcing correct behaviours and disciplinary procedures.
- Liaise with Mining Supervisors to ensure all issues relating to safety, compliance, and production are dealt with promptly.
- Actively participate in the daily pre-start meeting with the production crew.
- Inspect surface mine excavation areas before the start of mining activities to ensure acceptable risk levels.
- Periodically inspect the surface mine excavation and surrounding areas during mining activities to ensure acceptable risk levels.
- Routinely audit to ensure that only qualified personnel perform tasks requiring authorisation and that equipment is used in accordance with its design parameters and correct operating techniques.
- Coal Mining Industry Competencies RIIRIS301, RIICOM301B, RIIOHS301A and R11RIS402A
- Competent in MS Office
- Ability to read and interpret mine plans
- Sound knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD) including relevant regulations, guidelines and Australian standards
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to rapidly adapt to changes in operational situations
