Open Pit Engineering Superintendent - Mine Technical Services

As the Superintendent - Open Pit Engineering in the Mine Technical Services department at Barrick Gold's New Porgera Limited, you will play a crucial role in the success of our gold mine operation in Papua New Guinea. In this dynamic and challenging position, you will lead a team of 25-30 National Mine Engineers, driving them to produce high-quality deliverables that are completed on time and meet the highest industry standards.

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine, it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports. NPL offers experienced mining professionals the opportunity to play an important role in the training and development of our national workforce. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 25-30 National Mine Engineers to produce high-quality deliverables, ensuring they are completed on time and meet expectations.
  • Train and mentor high-potential candidates for succession planning within the department.
  • Provide guidance and support on all technical issues, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering environment.
  • Coordinate the production of short, medium, and long-term plans that achieve operational objectives and align with the budget.
  • Ensure production plans to support Operations are realistic, achievable, effectively communicated, and promote safe work practices.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Over 20 years of experience in conditions similar to PNG for similar-sized operations (over 20Mtpa).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Engineering Superintendent.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in documented reports, presentations, and executive interactions.
  • Proficient with Deswik mine planning software.
  • Able to sign-off Reserves as QP (e.g. fellow of AusIMM)
