Job description

Be part of something big and help us shape the future of energy – become an OT Systems Specialist with EQL today to keep our grid technology operating

Even if you haven’t heard of Energy Queensland (EQL) you might know our operational brands - Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Energy Retail and Yurika. As a group, we are growing rapidly and as part of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP), actively helping to ad vance the energy transition towards net zero.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operational Technology (OT) Systems Specialist with engineering experience to sit within our Grid Technology division. Ideally, you will have a deep understanding of control systems, engineering, and IT infrastructure within an OT environment.  You will be responsible for providing specialised technical and analytical assistance in the identification and implementation of opportunities and solutions to the underlying IT systems and infrastructure (including Windows, Linux, AD, and virtualisation) that support critical infrastructure that controls the electrical network.

So, what does this look like day to day?

You will apply your technical engineering knowledge to effectively analyse and resolve complex problems that support ICT systems and applications in an operational environment. You will engage in ongoing maintenance, support, upgrades, and enhancements to deliver cost-effective solutions to meet customer expectations and appropriate timelines.

Additionally, you will provide recommendations as well as develop, maintain, and implement standards and architecture for systems and applications within the OT environment. You can plan and manage large and complex systemupgrades and configuration changes when required, too.

With flexi-working and a 9 or 10 day fortnight in place, the bottom of the salary band starts from $140,751 for 9 days and $159,049 for 10 days + 12.75% superannuation. The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in this position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2020.

About You:

In addition to your Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related), you will have proven capability working in a technical role within an OT environment. It would be advantageous to be a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and/or a Red Hat Certified Engineer (or similar).

You can demonstrate that you have a high level of knowledge in application of Windows Server management tools and practices, including knowledge and experience in the operational support of a large and complex OT/IT environment. Technologies could include Linux or Windows.

Whilst you can work autonomously, you also enjoy collaborating with colleagues to achieve desired outcomes. You will be joining a well-supported team, where mentoring and coaching happens at that peer-level as well as from management.

What matters most to us is our values, We’re Safe – We Belong – We Grow – We Deliver. And these should matter to you too.

Why work with us?

Energy Queensland is the group of electricity distribution, retail, and energy services businesses 100% owned by the state of Queensland. We deliver electricity across Queensland through our ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network. Our retailer, Ergon Energy Retail sells this electricity to customers throughout regional Queensland. And these essential service activities are supported by a range of innovative products and services delivered through our Yurika brand.

It’s an exciting time to join us and to be involved in the energy sector, so consider us for your next career move, where you will experience:

  • Secure employment backed by a strong collective agreement, with yearly EBA increases.
  • Strong 12.75% superannuation and the ability to earn more with salary sacrifice co- contributions.
  • Healthy work life balance on a 9-day fortnight roster if you choose this.
  • Opportunities for skills and career advancement with access to ongoing training and leadership programs and capacity to build and grow your skills.
  • A chance to give back with a paid employee volunteering program allowing our employees to support communities across QLD.
  • Support and guidance with access to 24/7 Employee Assistance Program and a mentoring program for professional support and guidance.
  • A Safety-First culture, the safety of our people, customers & communities is a core priority.
  • Reward and recognition with an internal reward and recognition program that includes an annual celebration of excellence.
  • Diversity and Inclusion where all employees can contribute towards multiple diversity and inclusion initiatives across our business
