Job description

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is committed to promoting biodiversity and conservation to enrich people’s lives, through sustainable management of Western Australia’s species, ecosystems, lands and the attractions in the department’s care.

About the location
Geraldton boasts a beautiful coastline, a Mediterranean climate, excellent schools, a vibrant sporting community and all the amenities of a regional city centre. A one-hour flight or four-hour drive north of Perth, it has a reputation for sunny days, beautiful beaches, water sports and wildflowers. The coastline provides endless opportunities for free camping and excellent fishing, diving, windsurfing and surfing.
Geraldton is conveniently located to explore the natural wonders of Western Australia including Kalbarri National Park, Murchison arid rangelands, Zuytdorp coastal cliffs, the famous marine parks of Shark Bay and Ningaloo, and the Houtman Abrolhos Islands lying just two hours offshore.
Job Description
Under the general direction of the District Parks and Visitor Services Coordinator:

  • Organises and undertakes the implementation of operations, works programs, activities and projects associated with Parks and Visitor Services and infrastructure management within the Murchison District.
  • Monitors and reports on operations.
  • Liaises with community, key stakeholders and community groups in a positive and informed manner.
  • Undertakes an active role in prescribed burning and bushfire suppression operations.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total. * Experience in the operational implementation of works programs associated with natural land management or a closely related area, plus knowledge of project management in natural settings.
  • Evidence of well-developed interpersonal and oral communication skills with experience in liaising effectively with external organisations; government agencies, community, and special interest groups with a preference for someone willing to work with Aboriginal people and having an awareness of their culture.
  • Experience, knowledge and skills in leading and managing teams, working effectively as part of a team and independently; and showing a high level of self-motivation.
  • Experience in budget preparation, control and expenditure of allocated work projects.
Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
