About the Role

Main Roads Western Australia are committed to responsible environmental management of the WA road network.  Our Environment Branch provides leadership, systems, processes and standards that drive corporate environmental and heritage performance. The team works with Main Roads project development, delivery, regional and metropolitan branches to undertake environmental impact assessments, obtain approvals and ensure environmental management meets legislative requirements and organisational objectives.

The Principal Environment Officer (Operations) is responsible for the providing environmental leadership and managing the delivery of environmental services including environmental impact assessments and approvals to support the successful delivery of roadwork programs and network management. 

The role is also responsible for providing specialist advice and direction to regions on environmental issues and ensures compliance with corporate and statutory environmental requirements. 

The Principal Environment Officer (Operations) is an important role in Main Roads environmental performance and facilitates the successful delivery of business across the state.

About You

As a passionate and qualified environmental professional, you will possess comprehensive skill, knowledge and experience in environmental assessment, approval, and management, and will have demonstrated experience in the application of State and Federal legislation relating to environmental issues and processes.

Our customers are important to us, hence your natural ability to develop positive, proactive, and professional working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders will be critical to your success in the role. Your experience to successfully manage resources and people to deliver projects and outcomes will be key to the role.

  1. A copy of your Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant discipline or a Degree in Environmental Management.
  1. A copy of your current Western Australian ‘C’ Class (car) motor vehicle Driver’s Licence or an approved equivalent
  1. A comprehensive CV demonstrating your relevant skills and abilities within the context of the Job Role Statement.
  1. A statement outlining your comprehensive skill, knowledge and experience in the following four (4) criteria in no more than four (4) pages:
  • Application of relevant environmental legislation (State and Federal)
  • Environmental impact assessment, approval and management
  • Building and enhancing stakeholder relationships
  • Managing employee behaviour, performance and development.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment medical questionnaire prior to appointment as part of this recruitment process.
